Things to do in Seattle

Sightseeing

There is a ton to do in Seattle. If you haven’t been here before, you should probably do the touristy stuff like seeing the fishmongers throw fish at Pike Place Market and the gum wall. Pike Place Market recently expanded — if you have time to look around, see if you can spot our market charm.

If you have extra time and want to explore just a little beyond normal walking distance, check out some well known sights in Fremont as well (Fremont Troll, center of the universe, etc.) – and you can tour Theo’s while in the area (reservations recommended, $10 fee for tour — or you can pop in and taste the chocolate for free!)

There are a lot of new sights in the downtown and South Lake Union neighborhoods, including the Amazon spheres. For first time visitors, Seattle Center has more than just the Space Needle — it hosts the Pacific Science Center, Museum of Pop Culture and Chihuly Garden and Glass. The monorail runs from Westlake Center (2-3 blocks from the Sheraton) to Seattle Center. Monorail is a fun ride but warning — cash only.

Pioneer Square is also a blast. Like many neighborhoods in Seattle, it’s changed quite a bit in the past few years. There is a lot of great history and old buildings and there are fun restaurants, cocktail bars and parks as well.

Eating and drinking

Where to start? You can creep on Carrie’s Yelp bookmarks. There are many options for different tastes and budgets. Near the downtown Sheraton you’ll find healthy choices like Juicy Cafe and hyper local spots like Mr. West. Happy hour deals abound, try this outdated yet relevant enough website. Right now we’re loving 100 pound clam for seafood, Navy Strength for dangerously strong and delicious cocktails, Stateside for kickass Asian fusion, Neon Boots for divey beers and greasy food and Outlier for brunch. We frequently hit up Tom Douglas spots — Assembly Hall or Dahlia Bakery for a breakfast and/or coffee fix, and Cantina Lena for tasty and creative mexican food with surprisingly good margarita slushies.

Events weekend of October 28-29

Do you want to run a 5k Saturday morning? Let Rebecca know. There are two happening in the area: Where’s Waldo 5k and the Halloween 5k at Magnusson park.

Football fans, take note that the Seattle Seahawks are hosting the Houston Texans the afternoon of Sunday, October 29, 2017.
